Poetry is not just words on a page.
Poetry is not just a story.
Poetry is a human being bearing their mind, body and soul for the world to see.
Poetry is a person ripping their own heart out and cutting it open for the world to read like an open book.
When a poet finds love, it’s like someone read that bleeding heart and nursed it back to health, then put it in a box, and put that box where only they will ever see it again.
It is from that point that the poets heart is no longer open for the world to see. It is only for the one who shelters their heart.
So when someone writes a poem, remember: They are bearing their entire being for all to see with the hope that someone, someday, will shelter it from the prying eyes of the world.
